The Journal ran for thirty-two years and twenty-six volumes, and the volumes are not evenly sized. Volume 8 is the largest at 91 sermons; volume 26 is the smallest at 40. Each volume below has its own page listing every discourse in printed order, each linking out to the sermon itself.
A volume is a useful unit precisely because it is a slice of time. What the church was arguing about in 1858 is not what it was arguing about in 1880, and reading one volume straight through shows that in a way a topical index cannot.
