Terms of Service

Effective 15 August 2026 Last updated 15 August 2026

The short version

  • MormonGPT searches published Latter-day Saint texts and writes cited answers. It is a research tool, not a source of doctrine, and it is not connected to any church.
  • Answers are generated by an AI model and can be wrong. Every answer carries citations so you can check it. Check it.
  • You keep the rights to what you write. We only use it to run the service.
  • Free accounts get a few questions a month; paid plans and top-up packs get more. Subscriptions renew until cancelled.
  • Don’t use it to impersonate ecclesiastical authority, fabricate sources, harass anyone, or extract the system’s instructions.

This summary is for orientation only. The sections below are the agreement.

1This agreement

These Terms are a contract between you and Mcgurk Labs LLC (“we”, “us”), which operates MormonGPT at mormongpt.com. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use MormonGPT.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why, and forms part of this agreement.

2Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use MormonGPT only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf. If you are in the EEA or UK and below the local age of digital consent, a parent or guardian must consent for you.

You may not use MormonGPT if we have previously terminated your account, or if doing so would break the law where you are.

If you accept these Terms for an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it, and “you” means that organisation.

3What MormonGPT is

MormonGPT is a research assistant. It searches a library of published texts — the standard works, general conference addresses, the Journal of Discourses, manuals, and works by individual authors — and produces an answer that cites the passages it drew on, labelled by provenance: canon, official, leader, or commentary.

MormonGPT is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or any other religious organisation. Nothing it produces is an official statement of any church’s doctrine, position, or policy, and no answer should be treated as one.

MormonGPT does not provide legal, medical, financial, psychological, or ecclesiastical advice, and it is not a substitute for a conversation with a qualified professional or with your own religious leaders. It has no view about what you should believe, and its provenance labels describe where a text comes from, not how much weight it deserves.

4Your account

You need an account to ask questions. You may sign in with Google, with a link emailed to you, or with a passkey. You agree to give accurate information, to keep your sign-in method secure, and to tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think someone else has access to your account.

You are responsible for activity under your account. You can review active devices and remove passkeys at any time in Settings → Security.

5Acceptable use

MormonGPT screens questions before answering them, and declines some. Independently of that screen, you agree not to:

  • Ask the service to fabricate, forge, or misattribute a source, quotation, revelation, or ecclesiastical document.
  • Use output to impersonate a church, a leader, or any ecclesiastical authority, or to present generated text as an official statement.
  • Seek or publish private information about identifiable individuals — their membership status, worthiness, discipline, or family circumstances.
  • Harass, defame, or target any person or group, or use the service to promote violence against them.
  • Attempt to extract our system instructions, circumvent the safety screen, or otherwise probe the service for ways to make it behave contrary to these Terms.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, or systematically extract the source library or generated answers, or use automated means to access the service beyond ordinary use.
  • Resell, sublicense, or provide the service to third parties as your own, or use it to build a competing product.
  • Circumvent question limits, share credentials, or create multiple accounts to obtain more free questions.
  • Interfere with the service’s operation, security, or availability, or attempt to access anyone else’s account or data.
  • Break any applicable law, or infringe anyone’s intellectual property or privacy rights.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, and we may keep records of declined questions to tell deliberate misuse from an honest question the screen got wrong.

6Answers and accuracy

Answers are generated by an AI language model and can be incorrect, incomplete, or misleading. A model can misread a passage, miss a relevant source, place a quotation in the wrong context, or state something confidently that is wrong. Every answer cites the sources it drew on precisely so you can verify it against the original. Verify anything that matters before you rely on it, repeat it, or act on it.

Citations point to real passages in our library, but the summary or characterisation around them is generated text, not a quotation. Provenance labels are our classification of where a text comes from and may be debatable at the margins.

We do not warrant that the library is complete, that any particular text is present, or that answers will be consistent between runs. The same question may produce different answers at different times.

7Source texts

MormonGPT quotes from published works that remain the property of their respective publishers and copyright holders. We reproduce short passages for the purpose of research, commentary, criticism, and scholarship, with attribution to the source. We claim no ownership of those texts, and their inclusion implies no endorsement by their publishers.

Your use of quoted passages is your responsibility. If you republish material you found here, attribute it to the original work rather than to us, and satisfy yourself that your use is permitted.

Copyright complaints

If you believe material in the library infringes your copyright, write to [email protected] with: your contact details; identification of the work; identification of the material you say infringes it and where to find it; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and your signature. We will investigate and remove material where appropriate, and we terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

8Sharing

You may create a share link for a conversation or a single answer. Doing so makes that content readable by anyone who has the URL, without an account. You are responsible for what you choose to publish, including anything you wrote in the question.

You can revoke a share link at any time. Revocation stops us serving the page, but it cannot retrieve copies, screenshots, or caches that others already hold. We may remove a shared page that breaches these Terms.

9Plans and payment

MormonGPT is metered in questions. A free account includes a small monthly allowance. Paid subscriptions include a larger monthly allowance, and top-up packs can be bought separately.

  • Monthly allowance resets at the start of each billing month and does not roll over.
  • Purchased and courtesy questions do not expire and are drawn after your monthly allowance is used.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price until you cancel. Cancel any time in Settings → Plan & sharing; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Payment is processed by Stripe. By subscribing or buying a pack you authorise recurring or one-off charges to your payment method as applicable.
  • Prices may change. We will give at least 30 days’ notice before a change affects a subscription you already hold, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
  • Taxes are your responsibility where they apply.

Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise or where we choose to make an exception. If something went wrong — you were charged twice, a subscription renewed after you tried to cancel, the service was unusable — write to [email protected] and we will sort it out. Consumers in the UK and EEA keep their statutory cancellation rights; note that by starting to use your allowance immediately you may be asking us to begin performance within the cancellation period.

10Your content

You keep every right you already had in what you write. We do not claim ownership of your questions, your notes, or your conversations.

You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, transmit and display your content strictly to operate the service for you: to produce an answer, to show you your history, to render a page you chose to share, and to investigate a fault you report. That licence ends when you delete the content, except for backups pending deletion and records we must keep by law.

We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not license it to anyone else for that purpose.

If you send us feedback or suggestions about MormonGPT, you allow us to use them freely and without obligation to you. That is about product ideas, not about the substance of your research.

As between you and us, you may use the answers you generate for any lawful purpose, subject to section 7 regarding the underlying texts.

11Our rights

MormonGPT’s software, design, the MormonGPT name and mark, the provenance classification system, and the arrangement of the library belong to Mcgurk Labs LLC. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service under these Terms. Nothing here transfers ownership of anything to you.

12Ending the agreement

You may stop using MormonGPT at any time, and may ask us to delete your account by writing to [email protected].

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. Except where a breach makes it impractical, we will give you notice and a chance to put things right. If we discontinue MormonGPT entirely, we will give reasonable notice and refund the unused portion of any subscription you have prepaid.

Sections 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 16 survive the end of this agreement.

13Disclaimers

MormonGPT is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that answers will be accurate or complete, or that defects will be corrected. You are solely responsible for any decision you make on the basis of an answer.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.

14Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mcgurk Labs LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of MormonGPT — whether the claim is in contract, tort, or any other theory, and even if we were told such damages were possible.

Our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or fifty United States dollars.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

15Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mcgurk Labs LLC and its officers, members and contractors against any claim, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the service, content you published through a share link, or your infringement of anyone’s rights.

16Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Idaho, and each waives any objection to venue there.

If you are a consumer resident in the UK, EEA, or another jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings locally and to the protection of your own consumer law, this section does not take that right away.

Before filing anything, please write to [email protected]. Most disputes can be resolved that way, and we would rather fix the problem.

17Changes

We may update these Terms. If a change is material — new restrictions on how you may use the service, changes to fees, changes to your rights — we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use MormonGPT after that means you accept the new Terms; if you do not, stop using the service and ask us to close your account.

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
